Newly Haunted House

Your daughter found you

hanging from a rope in the basement

your swollen barefeet

barely reaching her head.

Your sons ran to save their youngest

as her screams rang through a motherless house.

Too late to revive you

as one breathes the air you gave him

back into your lungs

and another pounds on the heart

that wasn't enough.

Too late to save you;

too soon to call the others

and share the pain

of a lonely family.
