A New Mountaintop

Jefferson was no man of equality

spitting lines about freedom

and individuality

while holding the chains

of my brothers and me

His legacy never lost

on a new generation

throughout the ages

we preach his same messages

still with the underlying aggression

for saying freedom

is not the same as getting it

The blood of the American ancestors

the true founders

whose history was burned away

simultaneously

with the birth of this new nation

which still contained and still contains

the flaws of any other plantation

But our history is not desolate

We must rediscover the words

That made guns fire

Signs ablaze

Bridges made

A new prophecy

Of modern days

We listen to the great americans

Martin, malcolm,

Their words fade away

But we remember the meaning

Of a new mountaintop
