A New Family Moves In

the forest stood proud once lush and green
the trees armed for battle with needle teeth
and creatures untamed and unseen

then came the smoke wielding poison in its sheath,
grubby fingers greedy for their next meal,
uprooting the woodland from underneath

the fox felt the toxins nipping at her heel,
and the bird sensed something like tar in her wings.
the forest had no choice but to keel.

Now children can see what the metal monster brings
to the woods, which were once tall and free,
but instead, lie under the Ferris wheel and swings.
