Never You

This isn't a love poem

because it was never you that I loved

I loved you warm breath on my face at 3 am

I loved your eyelashes whenever you looked down

I loved the way you would say my name as I walked away

but it was never you

Never you that I loved

If it was you that I loved there would be no nights reliving every encounter

every time you crinkled your eyes every time got into my car

If it was you I wouldn't be asking myself "Why her?" Why wasn't I enough?"

Because I already knew the answer

It wasn't me. it was never me. i wasn't enough.

But, I never loved you

If I loved you, I would have let go

and I could not let go
