Never will You Be

“You will never be enough,” I tell them matter-of-factly.

“You will never be what they want you to be, you will never be useful, or kind, or funny, or smart enough, or talented enough, or even rich enough... you will not succeed like they will, you will fall behind in just about anything you try to do, and you will always find a way to plant strong seeds of doubt in the hardened minds of those around you.”

I wanted to smile at the destroyed look that came upon my friend’s once happy face, seeing each of my words slowly tear them down till they reached their lowest level.

“You will never be enough,” I repeated, nodding at myself in my bathroom mirror before I turned the light off and went to bed.
