Necessity
Before I take a trip, take a beat, take a breath
Take stock, what I've got
Is waking moments and sleeping thoughts
In my head, I have music, I have stories, I have friends
Most of all, I have time, and no knowledge of how much
But I take solace in the fact that I can decide how little
On this island, I have unproven skills and raw materials
If I'm to survive I'll have to do what's always been done for me
I have to make the world.
I have to make peace, make a fire, make a dam
I have to make tools for what I can't do with my hands
I'll take food, water and shelter
I'll take air and space
I'll take pain and pleasure
And when I've had all I can take
I'll give
up.
