My People & I/Gold
Location
My People & I
We are Perceived as the Enemy
We are the black coffee to your vanilla
The Racists claim that we are bitter
But better than that is what we are
My People & I
We are a beautiful race
diverse from the various colors of our skin
to our diffident personalities
We are quick to say that we are Caramel, Dark Chocolate, Light-skinned & Dark-skinned
But aren't retentive enough to remind ourselves that our souls are made of Gold
My People & I
We were once split by the schism known as slavery
Yet the main thing we have become a slave to
Would be the various colors of our skin
We are an Extended family of Brothers & Sister, Mothers & Daughters, Father's & Sons, and Even distant cousins
We are an African American family tree
Connected whether we are the 20th generation in this country, or the 40th
And like Jane Austen I'd rather have one thing
Pride
Why?!
Because Prejudice is for the Petty and the Ignorant
I place Pride in this Cocoa-bean colored skin of mines
And if this were math class
I would say that Black = White
Because as Ruth Said
God is the color of Water
