My Mother

Through rain and sunshine you were always there

To make me laugh and feel human again.

As I grew thin, lost self, and lost hair,

I watched your face grow dark with worry when

My faith and strength began to fade, you were

Always by my side, a woman so strong

You showed me life’s light when life was a blur

And slowly I began to see the wrong

In living life in fear rather than hope.

I know we fought, my words unjust, ruthless,

You took my beatings and remained my rope

Saving me from my internal darkness.

A mom so special, how I wish you knew

That no one in this world compares to you.
