my moment

Senior year, such a joyful time
You think you have everything under control but you don't know why
Scholarships are up and you just hope you get one because putting the stress on your parents just might kill them
I heard a saying everything unfolds your senior year, I lost a couple of friends and I'm still not shedding tears
Take everything in as a lesson learn, learn from your mistakes just like you yearn
Yearn your father's hug and kiss one last time, losing him at a young age to such a violent crime
Now I am older and I'm getting wiser, I want to enjoy walking across that stage green gown, High heels, family sitting in the audience.
Right before I walk across to get this little peace of paper that holds my future I whisper to myself its my time to shine, this is my moment.
Making something of myself not to make my family proud, but not to become a statistic like every other African American
On the side of the 7-11 doing drugs or prostituting theit body's
Let me be a doctor and save lives and possibly pass on some knowledge
Now again I walk and I see I made it this far I scream, THIS IS MY MOMENT AND I DID IT FOR ME !!
