My Melanin Sonnet

Dark skin is not a badge of shame

My African beauty makes me shine

Nubian beauty is a crown that I claim

And still I rise.

I am a Nubian princess

Royal in very way

Beauty is never restless

Count every beautiful thing in me or go away.

I am a black queen of beautiful me

My soul is worthy and my two-colored dark skin is royalty

People’s judgment of dark beauty are cruel and mean

Brown skin girls need people with the definition of loyalty.

I get big scars and bruises all over my dark skin

I play too hard and rough

My beauty is deep within

I am still beautiful and tough.

I am dripping melanin and honey

I’m black without apology

A melaninaire of dark skin money

The studies of Melanin are not mythology.

Beauty is always a Queen

And I will always gonna be me
