My Little Island in the Sea

My single palm tree sways to and fro

On my little island in the sea.

The grains of sand stick to my toes

On my little island in the sea.

I shout to ships as they pass by

Hoping one eye of theirs might catch mine

And come my way to save me from

My little island in the sea.

But they sail far away

To lands I cannot follow

Where once I had been, maybe,

Far off in my memories.

But now I am here

On my little island in the sea.

My island does not move

Or sway to and fro

Like my single palm tree

Or the boats that pass in the night.

It stays and stays and stays

And never does much of anything.

And I simply sit

With the grains of sand stuck in my toes

On my little island in the sea.
