My Lady Liberty, for where has America gone?

Back in Ninety-Seven, back when I was born

America was far different; less hate and scorn

Back when schools taught old fashioned, and parents had respect;

Back to when the biggest argument was a video game’s cause and effect;

Back to where progression was seen, and people weren’t as dejected;

But even in this world, nothing can be perfected;

Where Liberty and Freedom once meant respect and peace;

Oh Lady Liberty, is there any way to reticence this awful beast?

Before the here and now; I was proud of this nation,

No country is perfect, but now here it seems to be too much tension;

I want to go back, back to when the greatness of America truly showed

Back to when schools gave more class options; instead of ridding everything but common core;

I want to see union, where everyone seemed more happy;

I want to see respect for all couples, be it straight, be it gay;

I want for people to see people, not just a color or religion or race

I want people to be judged for themselves, and not by someone else’s criminal face

I want people to understand the difference what should be said and what should not;

And that while opinions are important, yelling and cussing without logic does not earn you your lot;

I want to see debates again, that calmly discuss both sides

Not a five-year-old fight session, where both parties scream and cry

I miss when protests were actually peaceful, and had logical appeals

Not this tantrum conundrum; where destroying property and hurting others, because someone’s inflated ego can’t handle another person’s ideals;

I hate all this bullying and mocking, without doing proper research;

Where as long as it entertaining, people don’t seem to understand all the people who are getting hurt;

I guess I’m generally tired of people in this country constantly getting battered

Can’t we all just get along? Don’t we remember what this country stands for?

Does anyone remember back when America tried to make amends?

Where we tried not to make national enemies, and to just be friends?

I want to go back, back to the America I remember growing up with

Where America was great specifically for the reason that no one was the same

America is diverse, is unique, and full of amazing people

But now it’s a battlefield against the media, political correctness, and hot-headed tempers;

America is losing respect from all of the world as we speak;

Not even our own citizens respect her, even our flag is tattered and meek…

I’m done with disrespect, and I’m done with callous behavior;

If we want to make America Great as it once was, then maybe its time to grow up;

To stop burning our national symbols over hurt feelings;

To stop hurting people around us, because we might not be the same;

To stop assuming superiority and to see the both sides of the debate;

America its time to wake up, and to see the faults in our current fate

I miss the country we were just a decade ago, and the things that we stood for;

Are we just ready to throw that all away? Who is America? And what is she fighting for?
