My Inherent Decency

HI

I’M TYPICALLY PRETTY SHY

AND THAT MAKES ME A CARPET

THAT YOU HAVE TRODDEN ON

EVERY DAY SINCE I MET YOU

WITHOUT REMOVING YOUR SHOES

THAT ARE COATED IN MUD

FROM THE MELTING SNOW

AT FIRST

I COULDN’T TELL

BY AND BY

I COULD SEE YOUR FOOTSTEPS

IMPRINTED ON THE WEARING SHAG

AND JUST LIKE THAT

MELTING SNOW

IS WHAT I BECAME

MUDDY AND DEPRESSED

I LOOKED NICE AND INVITING

AND YOU TOOK ME FOR GRANTED

BUT IF I WERE A BED OF FLAMING COALS

WOULD YOU STILL STOMP

WITHOUT CAUTION?
