My Henry

Have I told you about his eyes, how they have a light of their own,

How they sparkle with mischief or laughter or other emotions

He only lets me see

Have I told you about those eyes of his,

How they’re an enchanting shade of green

With flecks of gold that only hint

At the magic he wields

And the power he has over me

His smile spreads across his face

And makes those sparkling eyes of his glow brighter

With joy, excitement, contentment, peace,

Or just playful mischief

And he smiles

Oh, my heart, he smiles at me

And that simple gesture takes my breath away

Those soft, gentle lips belong to a thief

That steals my air with every kiss,

And even the kisses are stolen too

But I’m not complaining

I steal them from him as well

I’d run my fingers through his soft brown hair

As long as he would allow me

And let my hands roam for as long as he permitted

And kiss as much of him as I could reach

To tell him that he’s mine

He likes to remind me that I am only his,

And I have to reply that if that is so, then he is mine

And mine alone

He repeats, we start over again

Telling each other

You only belong to me

I told him he stole my heart from me

Even though I would have given it if he asked

He told me I would have stolen his first

If he hadn’t already given it without my asking

I’ve given him my heart

My body

My soul

My life

My love

To him, and he has pledged his heart

His body

His soul

His life

His love

To me, and I start over again and he repeats

Until we’ve pledged ourselves to each other again

That pledge we repeat is physical

Represented by a golden band on each of our hands

Fourth finger, left hand

It’s a promise that we’re bonded together

Forever and always

Toujours et toujours

Which is how we express eternity in my mother tongue

We recite our promise

As a tender goodbye before the workday starts

As a lullaby after a long day ends

It is a comforting melody that we never tire of hearing

A salve to ease a smarting heart

A breathless moan in the heat of a pleasured moment

A tender whisper after that loving union

A promise that neither of us will break

Have I told you that I love him?

That I would go from the depths of Hell

To the highest level Heaven would permit me to go

And still fight to go farther

If he only asked me to

That I would kiss away his tears

Destroy the demons and dragons that haunt his nights

And banish the hurt from the days I wasn’t there

Have I told you that he loves me,

And that knowing he does

Is my most treasured piece of knowledge

And what gives me courage

Have I told you these things?

If I have, this isn’t enough

This isn’t even a hundredth,

Or even a thousandth

Of the depth of my emotion

This is only a hint

A mere glimmer

Of how much I love this man

Mon trésor, mon coeur, mon amour,

(My treasure, my heart, my love)

My one and only

My forever and always

My Henry
