I woke up from my nap and my eyes were really dry.
To the bathroom I applied the eye drops.
Twice I blinked.
They were still dry. Dry and red, Irritated.

I peered through the mirror into my red eyes.
I wondered how these two odd things
could be the window to anyone’s soul—
how those round oblongs show fear, anger, joy, and everything in between.

I saw in my eyes a shimmer.
The magnificence of the cosmos.
A conversation between galaxies.
Aeons of stardust in the twinkling darkness
of a pupil.

And I thought that maybe
the universe is as tired as I am.
