My Black siblings are sneakerheadsI

My Black siblings are sneakerheads

I choose not to be

While they seek styles popular to their location and mainstream

I seek practiicality

Give me comfort

The ability to walk and stand hours on end

Also slip resistant

And if the shoe function is hybrid, that's a plus my friend

Popularity is contingent

And I am far too jaded

From years of adapting to survive

In an environment where I was simply tolerated

After years of navigating

And struggling to be confident in my identity

One thing I can say for certain

Sneakerhead is not me
