My Best Friend
Dear Nora,
My best friend,
I’ve never let you know,
But you are my best friend.
I’m too afraid to say it out loud,
Though it probably has slipped;
fell from my mouth.
Words pour out,
(From both of our mouths),
We’re loud,
we don’t try to stop ourselves.
But we carefully watch what we say.
Flipping through the files of our minds,
We pick our words with thought,
But neither of us has said to the other—
“You are my best friend.”
You will always be my best friend,
You will always be there to listen when I cry,
laugh,
or need assistance.
You will always be around to make fun of me when I sing,
fall,
or trip on my own feet.
And I love you like a sister.
Thank you,
Trinah
