The Music Torch

Location

I lift my hands

As all eyes intentively gaze

There is yet so much at stake

For the rhythm and notes to be so perfectly phrased

Judges observe

As the song takes flight

The young musicians so eloquently focused

For they knew this was their night

I thought back to the time

When I could barely remember a face

Yet here they were so normal to me

For each one could not be in a more fitting place

They quickly grew familiar

As everyone undeniably stuck out

Music became second nature to them

For tonight they had no sign of doubt

I taught them everything I knew

And they absorbed it all like a sponge

I could not simply ask more of them

For it was them who took the plunge

So I smiled with great pride and joy

When every note and rhythm was performed with such perfection

I had passed off the torch of music

For they grabbed hold of it with predilection
