Music is Awesome

When I learned how to play the recorder in third grade,

when I realized I was pretty good at it.

When my fourth grade teacher had the class sing Mexican rancheras,

when I heard myself really sing for the first time.

When I picked up a clarinet to join band in elementary school,

when I found others who were just like me.

When I joined my middle school chorus,

when I learned to listen, not hear.

When I joined the marching band,

when I learned the simple command of attention.

When I took piano lessons,

when I learned that skill comes with practice.

When I joined the high school marching band,

when I became high woodwind captain.

When I joined the high school chorus,

when I became the soloist.

When I joined the high school theatre team,

when I became the lead role.
