Mourning After

sun rising, yeast baking
in the soiled sheets.
froth of your love like latte lattice
stuck to the brim of my tongue.
bric-a-brac baby, midas touch,
gold sheen of betrayal in morning love.
see how it’s made: hate.
i am thinking about her in your mouth
sheets bed hair skin
i am thinking about nothing at all.
grudges like grass- cut down,
but back the next day,
a chore. a service.

don’t talk about loving me
like you once did.
i wanted everything with you.
my thoughts are vines that
refuse to be tended to, ensnaring
the things that get too close.
head over the toilet watching
technicolor become sewage.
flush me away. flush me away.

mourning after.

i desecrated the altar
that bore your image
and swallowed the pill.
