The Mountain Top

Let me tell you a story

of how my people were extracted from their villages like sap from tree trunks

and walked hundreds of miles to a new home.

Let me tell you a story

as they poured their blood, sweat, tears, and everything they had

to give a better life for their grand children they will never meet.

Let me tell you a story

that when my people got to the top of the mountain, they didn’t look back

they kept walking.
