The Mission

I thought this would be so much easier.

I had no idea what I was in for.

When I volunteered to go to a search-and-rescue training,

I never realized how much responsibility,

Or how much dedication would be needed.

That first day, I was terrified.

What did I just sign up for?!

This is too much stress,

Too much uncertainty.

Too much depends on my performance.

Mistakes can be deadly.

After that day,

I can’t go back to how I was.

I can’t understand how immature,

How innocent,

How naïve I was.

Is this how you become an adult?

Well, it worked for me.
