Message to My People
Location
The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in great times of crisis maintain their neutrality
In my eyes those who suppress a race are damned and in America this suppression was a harsh reality
America being the land of the free full of land, love, and liberty was the greatest public fallacy
That a nation could create
Now how can a nation built on hate
Finally concur this divide between race
I ask you how an American can proclaim that racism no longer exists
The Civil Rights movement occurred 60 years ago, or did you forget?
At a time when a, “negro” could be spit upon, abused, and lynched
My people suffered the pain
They marched for change
And didn’t leave ‘till police came
Martin Luther King had a dream
Malcolm X, he had a scheme
We finally got a black president
But he still catches death threats
Lord I just don’t get this
You do give your toughest battles to your strongest soldiers
Why though is racism a hump we just can’t get over?
Why is Black history month the shortest?
Why are black neighborhoods the poorest?
But with all of that on my people’s backs we’re still strong
In a game called life that’s played like chess we were meant to be pawns
But we fought for our spot on the other side of the board and became knights
Young Black people remember your ancestors and stand up for your rights
