A Message on Being
Dear world,
You always tell us to be ourselves.
It is a cliché that has been used and spoken of and heard more times than it has been understood.
You always tell us to do what we want.
Except when doing what we want defies your definitions.
You always tell us to be free.
All the while you inhibit our liberties as human beings with rights to their own personalities.
You tell us that being different is good.
That is, being different is good until someone follows through.
Because that one difference is dangerous.
That one difference can start a rebellion, ignite a fire, and break boundaries.
So that one difference receives blank stares, stupid questions, punches, kicks, taunts, threats, shame, neglect, abandonment, and maybe even death.
Because your mind-controlled minions do your bidding.
These are the people that think you are truthful.
These are the people that think you mean what you say.
They think they are being themselves.
They think they are doing what they want.
They think they are free.
But they are only a cheap reflection of someone else.
A billion carbon copies of whoever has the power in that moment.
And they only do what that powerful being does.
That is what satisfies the numbers.
That is what satisfies them.
But that one difference is not satisfied by numbers.
That one difference is not satisfied by the power.
That one difference is not a carbon copy,
Or a mind-controlled minion,
Or dangerous.
That one difference is everywhere,
Waiting to come out of the shadows,
Waiting for the moment when they won’t receive blank stares, stupid questions, punches, kicks, taunts, threats, shame, neglect, abandonment, and maybe even death.
That one difference is the voice of the people,
The true freedom,
The true want,
The true being.
Be ourselves, you say?
Then stop the persecution and let us live.
Sincerely,
A very patient disparity
