A message for Almost Michael Phelps

I'm afraid of the heart that shakes in my chest

It beats out of tune and it makes me a mess

I wonder what on earth is happening to me

what pea in the mattress is worrying me

I'm a woman, I say yet still tremble in fear

I can handle my feelings just don't come too near

The caged up blood organ that hops to get free

will jump for escape, make a fool out of me

I think you know why I must hide it this way

Do I run for no reason? Do you think I should stay?

Can you feel the boat rocking as I open my ribs

The air ain't as easy as when we were kids

I long to allow you the strings to control

The people in Loveland hear the warning bells toll

"A boy has eloped on our happy mindset!

He's knocking down buildings and you know what, I bet

He has not even noticed the homes that he's wrecked

We've covered the ruin in mind tarps but yet

we know that we may not live to regret

the day that a man blocked our happy sunset"

I mourn for the folks down in Loveland, oh my

For their dream it may never come true

To see me happy

I'm allowed to be me

Not  myself? I would much rather die

The people in that city fair

are blinded by their lovelaced hair

they see the hard road crookedly

I"m afraid love isn't what they think it to be

The way is unclear

the lamplight is dim

and the people that travel there are taken to sin

Sins of a most disagreeable breed

The highwaymen of love are in the business of greed

They take what they want and leave you for life

Your you head off and spinning, your heart full of strife

And the energy you used up trying to please

is all gone when you need it and now you're on your knees, crying

"A boy has eloped on our happy mindset!

He's knocking down buildings and you know what, I bet

He has not even noticed the homes that he's wrecked

We've covered the ruin in mind tarps but yet

we know that we may not live to regret

the day that a man blocked our happy sunset"
