A Mere Disguise

like the sun

and all the stars

she was bright - -

as lovely as the flowers

as beautiful as the - -

more radiant than all

as joyful and hopeful

as a wishing star

always the smartest

always the fastest

always the most popular

always the most radiant

and always the best

those are the colors

people saw

day to day

she went on

with voices inside

telling her stop

telling her don’t

people don't realize

that what they are seeing

is merely a disguise

of someone who is pained - -

she felt like the worst

so she acted like the best.
