Memory, The War of Many

I look at us today,
Who we are,
Who we were,
And I remember
What was before,
How memories built us
Into who we are today.
How they will continue
Building us up,
Until we break,
I look at the elderly
That I work with,
I wonder what their lives were like
What memory they still have left,
Many of them are sick,
But some remain healthy.
Oh how memory is a trick to us,
It builds us up,
Just to knock us back down again.
