memory of a sunrise

i slip into a dream

it's sometime between late and early

and this is where i find you

the bugs sing at their own tempos

as we walk a steady pace down the longer of the paths

we don't stop because we don't want to miss it.

the hills below us sleeping,

criss-cross applesauce you and me waiting

oversized sweater that smells just like your voice

this will be the first one i have ever seen

your arms around me harmonize with the warmth of a newborn day

and for the first time i'm certain;

home is not where i've come from

but rather the way the sun rises when you look at me.
