Mask of Words

Location

The mask I wear, that shimmers in silver,

Has saved my life a thousand times over.

The cold living metal that bits my cheeks

Has protected me from the cutting winds.

Bright blue paint laced the edges of my eyes,

Pure white lace shown like a confined flame.

They kept the sinners from harming me

A gate that locked my weaknesses away.

Dancing about the metal frame, they wound

Creating the bars of the intricate doors

That held me safe, held me captive.

A clown that I hid behind; a scared child

Who only sees the brilliant light of day

When their words resound like a melody

Through the hearts of men.
