Mask and Shield

Masks; not the ones worn on the night of fright,

But the masks which portray false personality

And refuse to uncover our faces to light.

Such denial in agreement to a task

Plagues the principles of honesty and justice.

Although numb to the challenge at first thought,

My mind sooner found comfort in such a lot -

Apart from those whom preferred to act out the part,

Despite the option being of second choice

Not the first.

I do not condone a bleeding heart on

The ordinary basis, but such a circumstance

Is not fully aware of its prescence

Nor can it cease to beat unless

Manually enacted,

But do be warned of the mask which shields

The vital vessel. Unable to face its pitiful truth

The scarlet symbol will attempt to deny

Its orders and attempt to repair itself,

But the constant shambles it leaves behind

Prevent its full healing and must

Be tended to by an unknown source

Of truth and passion.
