the mask

why can't i see beyond your mask?

"this is halloween, halloween, halloween..."

halloween has come and past.

the time has come to hang up the mask, my dear.

what costume? it's only me.

i want to see what is beyond

the porcelain perfect makeup

and the paper smiles.

this is for your own good

for your safety

for your well being.

i want to know.

don't get to close.

it's dark inside

and i haven't got a light.

i'm not afraid of the dark, my love.

you might not like what you find.

i'm not afraid.

there are lots of scary things in here

dragons and beasties

and knives

and fire

and there's no light for days.

i wear this mask to protect you

to keep you safe from the demons inside.

it's all for you.

i wear this mask because i love you.

you're not listening to me.

i'll slay the dragons-

they're invincible-

knives dull over time-

these knives are sharpened daily-

i'll put out the fire-

this fire is greek, unable to die-

i'll bring with me a flashlight-

batteries die-

i don't care, i don't care.

i'm not afraid.

i am strong.

i love you

so please take off your mask.

I want to see beyond

the makeup

the paper smiles

the false laughs.

do you want to hear a secret, my love?

i can see your eyes through the holes in your mask.

there's sadness in those eyes.

pandora took it all from you

but hope still remains.

there's nothing left for me-

i want to see you without the mask

wearing a diamond smile

and really laughing.

i love you.

i am not afraid.

i wear this mask to protect you

to keep you safe from the demons inside.

it's all for you.

i wear this mask because i love you.
