Plant me a rose
Plant me a smile
Love out the weeds
And all that is vile

Grow me a lily
Grow me a joy
One I’ve not known
Since I was a boy

The seed is planted
After the ground tilled
I watch and wait
After the work fulfilled

But the waiting is long
And even surprising
The dirt is unmoving
And the bud unrising

But then I recall
That old order of peace
That I provide seed
And God the increase

I wait for that smile
Which already is mine
But I know indeed
These things take time
