MAN OF GOD? MAN OF GOD?! YOU’RE NO MAN OF GOD…YOU’RE A BOY WHO’S HARD…THERE’S A DIFFERENCE. YOU STAND WITH ARMS UPRAISED, TEARS IN YOUR EYES, HYMNALS ON YOUR LIPS AND SEDUCTION IN YOUR HIPS, THINKING YOU SLICK, WALKING UP ON ME LIKE I’M A TRICK, THERE TO TURN YOU OUT, TURN YOU ON, MAKE YOUR HEAD FLY BACK WHILE YOU SPEAK IN OFFENSIVE TONGUES. YOU GOT THE SPIRIT ALRIGHT BUT IT AIN’T THE ONE YOU PROFESS, OR THE ONE YOU CONFESS, BUT NEVERTHELESS IT IS A FAR CRY FROM GLORY’S OWN, A FAR CRY FROM THE WORSHIP FROM MY FATHER’S THRONE. MAN OF GOD. YOU THROW THAT AROUND MUCH TOO LIGHTLY. TALKING ALL THAT BIBLICAL JARGON: RHEMA, ZOE, SHEKINAH AND THE LIKE , ALL THE WHILE YOU UNDRESSING ME, RAPING ME, WITH YOUR EYES THINKING IT’S OKAY BECAUSE YOU KEEP YOUR HANDS IN YOUR POCKET AND YOUR WORDS IN YOUR MIND THAT NO ONE WOULD NOTICE—THAT I WOULDN’T FEEL—THE NAILS DRIVING INTO MY SIDE, INTO MY HANDS, FOR I HAVE BEEN CRUCIFIED TOO. LIFTED HIGH IN THE EYES OF MEN ONLY TO BE REJECTED, BROKEN FOR WANTING TO LIVE A LIFE FREE OF SIN. MAN OF GOD…WHERE ARE YOU…WHERE ARE YOU REALLY? ESPECIALLY WHEN I SAY I’M SAVING SELF FOR MARRIAGE AND YOU DROP ME COLD TURKEY?! NO MORE CALLS. NO MORE FLOWERS. NO PRAYERS. NO NOTHING BUT GOT THE NERVE TO TURN TO MY SISTER, MY FRIEND AND SLEEP WITH HER AND SAY IT MEANS NOTHING. WHERE ARE YOU? SURELY, YOU’RE SOMEPLACE, GETTING THE PLEASURE YOU SO FERVENTLY SEEK BUT DID YOU EVER STOP TO PONDER…STOP TO THINK…THAT MAYBE WHAT YOU TAKE, WHAT YOU BEGUILE, TRICK AND LIE YOUR WAY INTO, ISN’T AT ALL WHAT THE MASTER INTENDS FOR YOU? YOU’RE LIKE THE ONE WHO COMES TO ROB, STEAL AND DESTROY, YOU’RE LIKE A SHEEP IN WOLF’S CLOTHING. YEAH, A SHEEP IN WOLF’S CLOTHING. SEE CAUSE IF YOU WERE A WOLF, I’D SPOT YOU A MILE AWAY, YOUR SCENT, YOUR TALK, YOUR WALK IT WOULD CERTAINLY GIVE YOUR TRUE NATURE AWAY. BUT YOU’RE A SHEEP, JUST LIKE ME, SO YOUR METHODS ARE NOT SO EASY TO DETECT, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU SUPPOSED TO BE PRAYING FOR ME BUT YOU SCANNING THE PEWS FOR YOUR NEXT CONQUEST. A FORM OF GODLINESS IS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS THAT IS…A FORM OF GODLINESS…MEANING YOU THINK YOU LOOK LIKE MY FATHER BECAUSE YOU DO WHAT YOU DO IN HIS HOUSE BUT I ASSURE YOU DON’T KNOW MY FATHER, CAUSE IF YOU DID YOU’D SEE THE WAY HIS GLORY EMANATES IN MY EYES, THE WAY HIS PRAISE CARVES FOR ITSELF A PERMANENT ALTAR ON MY LIPS. YOU’D SEE MORE THAN THE WOMAN YOU WANT TO BED AND MAYBE YOU WOULDN’T BE SO QUICK, TO TREAT THEM, TREAT US, TREAT ME LIKE I’M NOT WORTH THE GRIME ON YOUR SHOE. MAYBE JUST MAYBE YOU…MAYBE YOU…WILL SEE ME LIKE YOUR SISTER AND NOT THE NEXT WOMAN YOU WANT TO SCREW. MAN OF GOD, MY BROTHER, MY PROTECTOR, MY FRIEND, WHERE ARE YOU? DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU’RE GOING? KNOW WHERE YOU’VE BEEN? CAN YOU EVEN COMPREHEND WHAT YOU’RE DOING TO GOD’S WOMEN? YOU’RE TRAINING ME UP ALL RIGHT BUT NOT IN THE WAYS OF PURITY. YOU CLAIM YOU WANT A VIRTUOUS WOMAN BUT ACTIVELY LIVE A LIFE OF PROMISCUITY. FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS. I GOT A BENEFIT FOR YOU ALRIGHT, IT’S CALLED HELL AND IT’S OPEN TO ANYONE LEADING THAT KIND OF LIFE. PRESSING YOUR DAMP, MUSKY FRAME INTO WOMEN WHO WALK BY NOT STOPPING TO LOOK AT YOURSELF AND SEE THE LUST THAT BLINDS YOU, GUIDES YOU, CONTROLS YOU. DID YOU EVEN STOP TO THINK THAT WHEN I CAME TO CHURCH TODAY, THAT I NEEDED A WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT AND NOT YOUR MAN PARTS PRESSED INTO MY LEG? DID YOU EVEN ONCE CONSIDER THAT MY OUTWARD APPEARANCE ISN’T SO YOU COULD REJOICE BUT SO THAT THE SON WHO LIVES IN ME WOULD SHINE AND GIVE MY HEART CRY’S A VOICE? COULD YOU MAYBE…JUST MAYBE STOP TRYING TO COP A FEEL, GRAZE MY BREAST, AND WOULD YOU PLEASE STOP ACTING LIKE A CREATURE IN HEAT LOOKING TO HUMP, BUMP AND GRIND ANYTHING THAT BREATHES? I AM BONE OF YOUR BONE, FLESH OF YOUR FLESH. I’M MORE THAN HAIR, TITS AND LEGS; I AM WISDOM’S ANSWER TO YOUR FOLLY, THE FIRE THAT VANQUISHES YOUR FEAR, THE BREATH THAT BIRTHS LIFE INTO YOUR DREAMS. I AM THE MASTER’S RESPONSE FOR YOUR FULFILLED DESTINY. MAN OF GOD, WHERE ARE YOU?

The power this poem has is amazing. The emotions are raw, but instead of being vulnerable, you wrote this poem so that it radiates feelings of strength and hope, which is very inspiring.

First, thank you so much for your kind words! I love that you understood I was writing from a position of power even while being broken. I wanted to instill hope and strength. Thank you for replying--your thoughts are spot on!
