Mama's Words
“Reach for the moon,
Even if you miss….
You’ll end up among stars.”
The idea I hold dear.
The last whisper from my mother that went into my ear.
Her mama once told her, as she reached for the moon,
You wont make it up there, but your heart will still swoon.
You’ll be second place, don’t think, negate.
Second place is always better then ninety-eight.
So why do I care, and remember such stories,
I simply think about my future glories.
I reach for the ‘moon’, which is really straight A’s,
I reach for the best, and don’t take my eyes off the praise.
Without the remembering, of my mama’s words,
I wouldn’t have all my standard goals.
I’d be just another girl; I would fit it completely,
And those who fit in, they make it meekly.
That’s not my dream, I wish to stand out,
And how could I do such…
Without those words, from my mama’s mouth.
So now I’m a star, among a few others,
I still look up, to my dearest mother,
I see that one moon, shining so bright,
And I know one day, I’ll be in its light.
