A Lover's Last Request

I know that you can feel me softly breathe,
But with each breath my heart beats fainter still,
And though, my love, it's you I'd never leave,
I know that it's my time and that I will.

I want for you to keep the laughs we've shared
And store them in a place inside your heart
So that when life seems all too much to bear,
It's with my laugh you'll never have to part.

The dreams we've chased and mem'ries we have made
Will be there for when happiness is gone
And though the image of my smile will fade,
The memories are what will drive you on.

Until our souls shall meet again someday,
I'll smile my last and slowly drift away.
