Love Poem #3

When I feel the life fall from my eyes,

down towards the ground,

falling through the dips and valleys of my cheeks,

when I feel as though my knees are drawn to the earth,

pushing, reaching for the surface that holds me high,

when I feel the need to fall,

rip out the strands of grass kissing my feet,

when it all seems too much,

when I seem too much,

I think of you.

I think of everything that makes you

so distinctively you: the little hairs that cover your eyes,

the way your face lights up after I make you laugh,

and how your presence makes me instantly feel like I'm home.

You are the greatest pick me up.

You are an extra shot of expresso in a small brown paper cup,

a laugh that makes the muscles in my cheeks cramp up in the best way;

You are the ground that keeps me standing,

the new life in my eyes.

You are my happiness, my joy,

the new life that sustains me after I'd thought I'd never feel it's company again.

I pray to be wrapped in your peace forever.
