For The Love Of A Daughter

father,

they tell me to break free

but it is not easy

to tear out the roots of the weeds

that you planted in me.

i am so sorry

that i'm not the person you wanted me to be.

it's a little ironic

how you're the one who bailed

yet i had to become better

even though you only noticed when i failed.

i have tried to impress you

and i have begged for your attention

but the person i have become

is beyond your level of comprehension.

you are weak and afraid

so you try to make yourself seem bigger

by raining on my parade.

i know that i do not have a lot

but i will make do

and i will perservere

in spite of you.

so go on,

consume your liquor as if it is water

but please, leave me be

- for the love of a daughter.
