Surely, we have made it past

All those feelings of doubt…

But as a beautiful sunset fails to last,

We will fade with the day.

Like a thought lost in dementia,

As time tells the blooms of memory

To wither into dust upon the eager earth.

Ashes soothe the somber soil

To sprout with life, so silently.

Giving birth to more empty promises

That cry out through a mouthful of dirt -

Swallowing hope down with the rain.

Yet, we love as the seasons will pass…

As spring saves its dying victim

With another borrowed breathe.

And as winter will mourn for the sun

To shine its colors over coma white…

Uncaring to be content with the darkness

That can cover these eyes, so softly.

Letting go of all our fears

In the moment we share,

As I caress a lonely tear from your face

With these hands that long to touch you.

Swearing that time can never take this from us…
