A Love Betrayed

I once thought that your love might have been true,

With fantasies I did betray myself.

I thought you were my prince come from the blue,

I put my real life back upon the shelf.

I gave up everything I had for you;

You made my world revolve around your own.

The only way to keep you that I knew:

To give myself to you upon your throne.

Alas, you did not want me as I you

But let me drown myself for your ideal.

When finally you said to me adieu

You killed me but you ended my ordeal.

Therefore I found, as many lovers do,

That what I needed was just me, not you.
