The Lost Tale of the Prince and the Toad

Sun, 07/23/2017 - 21:42 -- Dennise

A crisp wind blew beside the quiet town,

Darkness covered his thoughts as he gazed into the horizon,

He searched as the rising sweat swept across his brow,

The overwhelming thoughts raced like horses in his mind,

Frantically pacing on the uneven cobblestone steps he released a slight tear.

Where was she, his prized jewel,

A woman that made him feel as though he could achieve anything,

Some may call these out of bound aspirations, dreams,

In this case they are his future reality,

Only if the mind could unveil the location of his beloved,

As he tightly griped her mighty crown he wailed in pain of sorrow.

Withheld by a revolting monster masked as a magic man,

The lady in leathered skin with wrinkled warts is enraged,

Fighting with her mucus covered fingers she attempts to break free,

Although the beholder of her tightly bounded chains uncovers no remorse.

In her mind she recollects her life before this instance,

Tiaras, wealth, and the inevitable lavish lifestyle,

Though those memories nearly compare,

To magical journey she shares with her true love.

As she remembers the day they met,

Stumbling into one another in between the deep toned cedar trees,

Right before the sun rose to say it's morning welcome,

Surrounded by their newly found friends the fox and the monarch.

When her heart weakened and she began to lose all hope,

A crash, then large bang shook the wall of the underground fortress,

She heard his soothing voice echoing in the distance,

By the time he had freed her from her rusted shackles, it was too late,

The magician had fled without a footprint in sight.

Although the perpetrator was never found,

The two rejoiced in a celebratory commitment ceremony,

In the woods on an autumn day,

Where the maroon leaves danced in the wind,

The couple made an unlikely decision to remain amphibians for eternity,

Living in the place where they began their compelling adventure.
