Lost at Sea

He is thrown in

Tossed like a little rag doll

Rocks and shells gnaw at his chin

Waves hit like a concrete wall

Salt water chokes his throat

Sure no one hears his calls

But in sight comes a boat

Saved and hoisted aboard

And with that, his future rewrote

Just one look and he is floored

These creatures with mangled faces stare

Yet, from them, a welcoming light poured

He examined the one with seaweed as hair

Out from her back flared a dorsal fin

The sides of her face butchered beyond just a tear

Just as he felt the uncertainty begin

He met pairs of gleaming blue eyes

The color of the water he had almost drowned in

At once he shed his disguise

Off came his shiny brand new dress shoes

Immediately he realized

These creatures’ hearts were true

They cared not about appearance or money

His life no longer held together by glue

Looking up, he admired the blue sky streaked with honey

But suddenly his eyes faded back in to focus

On the four walls enclosing him, now isn’t that funny

He lurched out of bed without much notice

On came his shiny brand new dress shoes

They scowled back at him looking quite atrocious
