Lost in a Kaleidoscope

kaleidoscope

shifting, spinning colors

mesmerizing

spiraling

hypnotizing

I’m being drawn in

dropped down the rabbit hole

surrounded by shards of color

a quicksand of shapes

no escape from the prison

of a few mirrors and beads

confetti and

odds and ends

the glass walls of the tube are slippery

and I’m falling up, flying into gravity

vertigo in outer space

no control in motion

trying to find a handhold

but focusing on something

makes it distort, disappear

so the drifting

continues

as what seemed to be solid

flies through my hand

grabbing a ghost

and what seemed to be ethereal

crashes into me

tapping the glass causes an

earthquake, seismic shift

but my position remains unchanged

I have detached from the world

my compass spins like the second hand

of a clock, no magnets to guide it

nothing exists but

color shape line

Mondrian had it right

was he lost too?
