Looking Back

I couldn’t wait

to do things on my own

To pay for things on my own

To live on my own

I was 17

I finally got my driver's license

All I wanted to do was leave

Drive wherever the road took me

Leave without having a destination in mind

I was finally an adult

Or so I thought

I grew up

I paid for my own gas, food, clothes

I had a job

I missed my parents

I thought about my childhood

All the family car rides

Not needing to worry if I had money

Not needing to worry if I had to get my sister from practice

That is when I grew up

Thinking about my childhood

This poem is about:
Me
My family
