That Look

The look in your eyes says it all

That smile, wide and toothless, like I was a superhero

I swear I haven't seen eyes so bright, I swear nothing is as beautiful

From the moment I met you, I would do anything to see you give me that look

It's the same look your grandma gave me

When I told her I wanted more in life

And she said "Go, chase your dreams"

And smiled at me like the ocean couldn't contain her hopes for me

It's the same look I gave your daddy

When he stepped onto that bus, ready to take on the world

And as he said goodbye one last time,

I said I was the proudest sister on the planet and "semper fi"

It's the same look in your mommy's eyes

When she said she wanted to keep you

Because you were a blessing and nothing less

And now this world would be a little bit worse without you

Nothing fills me quite the same like that look

You are so good at giving it, yet you don't even know

You are far too young to understand the feeling

But one day, I'll look at you the same way and you'll get it
