Lone Soldier

Location

I ran today.

I ran as the bombs blew.

I ran as the bullets flew.

I ran to a giant mound of sand.

I ran to the place where I would take my last stand.

I turned and raised my rifle.

I dug deep to get the courage I would need to strifle.

I lost all of my brothers.

I know they all had mothers.

I squint as the sun beats down upon my eyes.

I know though no one will hear my cries.

I know this is not how I had my life planned.

I take life after life with just the twitch of my hand.
