Living While Black

Black.

That's what they see first.

Black

That's what they hear first.

Black

That's what they touch first.

Black

That's what they remember first.

Black.

I'm proud

They know I am black.

I'm proud

They know I am a descendant of excellence.

I'm proud

They know I am a Queen in the making.

I'm proud.

I am amazing

But I am not invincible.

I am amazing

But I am not perfect.

I am amazing

But I am not silent.

I am amazing.

I know my worth

So I don't like them killing me.

I know my worth

So I don't like them erasing my history.

I know my worth

So I don't like them silencing my voice.

I know my worth.

Stop killing us

Because we look different.

Stop killing us

Because we bring greatness.

Stop killing us

Because we have wider noses.

Stop killing us

Because we want to make ends meet.

Stop killing us

Because we look like criminals to you.

Stop killing us

Because you want to keep your head in the sand.

Stop killing us

Because we are excellent.

Stop killing us

Because we are part of the change.

Stop killing us

Because we have been silenced for so long.

Stop killing us

Because we won't sit by any longer.

Stop killing us

Because we are human.
