Light Pollution

Light of my life,

Light in the dark,

I wish that were true.

You would never let me look up,

But now I have

And I see that the sky is not bright and blue,

It’s not even black and laced with stars,

But it’s gray and hazy.

You aren’t the light of my life,

You’re not the light in the dark,

You’re the light that infects the beautiful night sky,

The light that denies me the moon and the stars

And keeps me from what I want to see.

It takes a special kind of person,

To make me want to take refuge in the black of night,

As long as it gets me away from that tainted smog

You put in everyone’s eyes.
