My life is like a track meet

 And my mind is the team

So many different parts

 Working at different events

All striving to achieve the same goal

There are the throwers

Trying to make it as far as they can

By calculating angles and strength

There are the horizontal jumpers

Taking the leaps of faith

Hoping that their skill will carry them far

There are the distance runners

Knowing that sometimes slow and steady wins the race

And there are the sprinters

Who know that sometimes it doesn’t.

There are hurdlers

Who can get over any obstacle

There are the pole-vaulters

Who don’t mind having help getting to the top

There are the high jumpers

Who will do it by themselves.

Each team needs a coach

To keep them all together.

My life is like a track meet

Schoolwork requires throwers

Love life requires horizontal jumpers

Dinnertime requires distance runners

Timed tests require sprinters

Tough times require hurdlers

Planning the future requires pole-vaulters

While looking to it requires high jumpers

But still each team needs a coach

To keep them all together

Like a team works together to win a meet

My mind works together to life live

Because life is like a track meet

And my mind is the team.

And my heart is the coach
