Life Is But A Dream

Life is but a dream

I can see it slipping away from your very fingertips

It twirls and dances like fire on a burning stick

Life is but a dream

I see you with your cute little smile

A sparkle in your eyes

The pink blush flushed across your face

You’re swirling in a pile of lies

Sometimes I find you standing in the rain

Drenched cold, numbing wet

You feel, see, but don’t whisper a word

Life is but a dream

Then I find you walking along the beach

You told me you couldn’t swim so I watched over you

Slowly you walked into the deep ocean blue

Deeper green over blue

As you took your last breath

I saw your eyes glance over to mine

I ran to the ocean shore but I knew I should no more

Life is but a dream

The look I saw in your eyes I will always remember

You told me you were ready to go

And ready to go you were

You went, went, went

The water filled your lungs

Like water filling a river from drought

You drowned like dying was you last wish

Life is but a dream

Six feet under and then you wondered

What would heaven be like?

As you looked at the muddled sky high above

You closed your eyes down below

Memories of pain, sorrow

That brief moment of true happiness

Were all things you no longer wanted to borrow

Life is but a dream.
