A Letter to Those That Want to Understand

The empty smiles we put on every morning

Like a mask, we are forced to wear it.

Nobody understands the tears

That lie behind our smiles

Or the laugher that rings

To hide our sobs.

How can anyone comprehend?

The pain we endure everyday

Is like a never ending chasm

That sucks us in as the clock ticks on.

You say you want to understand

You want to help and save us?

How can you save someone-

That doesn’t need saving?

You say we are selfish

But how selfless are you?

Can you tell we’re hurting?

Can you see the torment we feel in our souls?

Who are you to judge us for our choices

When you weren’t even there to notice us

Until we were long gone?
